Call for Papers – Special Issue on Spatial Analysis and Spatial Planning for Sustainability in Urban Areas
Journal: Sustainability (MDPI)
The journal Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050) is inviting submissions for a Special Issue entitled “Spatial Analysis and Spatial Planning for Sustainability in Urban Areas”, which focuses on recent developments in spatial analysis and spatial planning methodologies that support sustainable urban transformations.
Scope and Objectives
Urban sustainability continues to be a central global challenge as cities face pressures from climate change, rapid population growth, economic transitions, and environmental stressors. Spatial analysis and spatial planning are critical tools for understanding and guiding the dynamics of urban systems and for designing sustainable strategies that enhance resilience, ecosystem services, quality of life, and sustainable land use. This Special Issue aims to present theoretical advances, innovative methods, and empirical case studies that contribute to these themes.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
-
Spatial analysis techniques for urban planning and modelling
-
Spatial optimisation and suitability analysis
-
Geodesign and geospatial decision support systems
-
Big data applications in spatial planning
-
Urban ecological networks and green infrastructures
-
Urban growth models and urban morphology
-
Methods for monitoring urban landscape change and soil sealing
-
Tools for enhancing urban resilience and ecosystem services delivery
Researchers are welcome to submit original research articles, comprehensive reviews, case studies, and methodological papers that address these and related topics.
